Match Report

Match Report - 17 Sep 2016, Old Wykehamist Football Club 1st XI beat Old Chigwellians

Fresh from a season-opening victory against the Old Cholmeleians, the 1s had a difficult away fixture against another club recently relegated from the Prem: Chigwell.

Building on last week's success, discipline and shape were again our watchwords. The first half was marked by a flurry of corners for the OWs, and not much else: 0-0 at half time. As the second half progressed, we produced more and more chances until James Essex cut inside his man and leathered a left-footed finish into the bottom corner - 1-0.

The goal seemed to break the Chigwellian spirit, and we generated chance after chance, but only managed to convert again when Tom Goulding chipped a delicious through ball to Alex Portz, who finished confidently with one touch. 2-0 the final score, and not much for GK Al Wheal to do; another wonderful performance, and a victory fully deserved.
