Match Report - 29 Sep 2013, Old Wykehamist Football Club Vets drew with Old Carthusian veterans
Well played us. They were a strong side, and had long spells of pressure and possession. We were tenacious and while it felt at times like they were all over us, we very nearly won, with them equalising right at the final whistle.
Man of the match for me was Robin in central defence for putting in about 40 solid tackles on their various attackers, and in particular their oikish, bulldog of a No8.
Our goals were from Jason, heading home a spectacular cross from the very corner of the pitch from Magnus after he'd rounded their left back. Then Magnus himself bulleted a header as they failed to clear from a corner - a hint of offside, some said... Then Jason poked home a rebound off a low shot from Ben for 3-2 (or was that the second goal?!) and moments later Shido our Japanese ringer scored (a totally scuffed shot) that was controversially NOT given… They cleared from inside their goal-line, saying 'well that makes up for your offside goal', which was as much proof as we needed that it was in. Of course there was stuff happening at the other end too, but we won't dwell on that. At 3-3 I scored our third headed goal, but we couldn't quite see the game out and ended 4-4 on the final whistle.
In other news... Thanks to our three non Ows for stepping in at last minute, in particular Sam who did the first shift in goal, before handing over to Ricky Hall who twanged his calf muscle and manfully hobbled through 60 minutes 'tween the uprights.
