The 12th of March played host to an almighty bottom of the table clash: Haileybury vs Aldenham. Its fair to say that expectations of the Haileybury drop were not misplaced as they went down 10-1 to their fellow trough feeders...
Elsewhere, Malvern managed a respectful 4-1 loss to top of the table Harrow. Given their sole remaining game comes against Aldenham, there is a lot to play for and they remain very much in Struggler's Cove.
For OWs, Aldenham's late season life and the chance to catch Malvern, heaped pressure on the trip to Repton (away) this weekend (19th March). The match felt truly pivotal not only to collect the 3 points but also to turn the tables straight back onto our rivals.
That pressure was well and truly quashed with a deliberate performance against a pedestrian Repton. The "makeshift" back four of Williams, Morgan, Fuller(c), and H Court, superbly protected by Pietro and C Court, helped the 1s to their first clean sheet of the season and with the prolific Essex and Donald up front, a goal was inevitable. Donald's 8th in 10 during an injury hit season, was all that was necessary to get the gritty away win.
Another key development has been the reduction in points on Wellington potentially putting them firmly in the picture. More on this to come.
