25th Nov: Two tough defeats in the return to league

25 Nov 2017

OWFC 1s 0-3 Old Tonbridgians

Old Rugbeians 2-0 OWFC 2s

Two unfortunate defeats but with positives to be taken for both sides last Saturday (25th).

The O-Dubs 1s were locked in a finely-balanced encounter with Tonbridge and at 0-0 on 60 minutes, were confident of turning the screw to get the win against one of the league’s better sides. However, a Tonbridge penalty, a soft 2nd and then an admittedly very nice top-corner free-kick left the Dubs shaken, stirred and frustrated with a 3-0 defeat in Barnes.

Miles Skinner won MoM from right-back, and it was a tough lesson for the Dubs before two huge games that require wins against Malburians and Lancing before the Christmas break.

For the 2s, OWs kicked off the game with only 10 men but put in a battling performance with some notably strong defending from Al Hardiman and assured keeping from Rollo Quinalt. At half time the score was 0-0 and all to play for. Second half with a full side now on the pitch OWs looked strong - unfortunately 2 penalties given was not altogether helpful.

This side is really starting to play well together - the results will come!
